5/10: Miami takes Control, 3 OTs in Memphis, etc.

Greetings...
  • Miami 98, Boston 90 - Don't let the final score deceive you... this was as tight as it gets... Lebron and Wade combined for 63 for the Heat, and it was enough to outlast Boston (with some help)... I thought the 3 most critical possessions of the game were 1) the Lebron dagger 3 when Miami was down 84-81 and he stared down Pierce in the corner and buried it... 2) The Rondo blown lay-up, and 3) The inexplicably bad execution on the final possession of regulation by Boston, when they had control of the ball with 19 seconds left, but failed to start their set in time to get a good shot... All 3 plays went Miami's way, and that's your game... Rondo was a bit of a liability offensively down the stretch (even at one point being benched for Jeff Green), but any blame placed there is likely misguided... Miami made plays... and even Chris Bosh (who somehow ended with 20 and 12) made the clinching play on the tip-in in OT... Is this series over? Probably... but I'd be too terrified to fully bury that Celtics team out of respect...
  • OKC 133, Memphis 123 - If you thought the first game was crazy... Memphis shot 36% for the game (all 3 overtimes included lol) and still managed to hang around thanks to some gifts from OKC... anyway, Russ Westbrook decided to (again) take 33 shots... this one wasn't as egregious since he played 51 minutes (obviously a better ratio), but his 33 shots to Durant's 20 (in 57 minutes) is cause for concern... Really liked what OKC got from Harden last night (19-7-7) and he was a legit option for them which is what they need... on the Grizz side, I thought Gasol was awesome (26 and 21), and Mayo played well, but other than that?... Yeah... Zach managed 34 and 16, but shot just 9 of 25 and clearly ran out of gas in the OTs... Conley and Allen combined to shoot 5 of 22, and that wasn't helping... this one is going 7 I think...
  • Maryland names Mark Turgeon head basketball coach... the former Texas A&M HC had been rumored in multiple openings this spring, and lands in College Park... not the "splash" hire they probably wanted, but an established guy with a nice track record...
  • The NBA All-defensive team was released yesterday with Howard-Garnett-Lebron-Kobe-Rondo... I have no issues outside of Kobe... yes, he's still above-average because he's very smart, and still fairly athletic, but anyone who watched that Dallas series would be laughing about Kobe on the all-defensive team... purely a "name" vote...
  • MLB Roundup: Carl Crawford hit a walk-off double for Boston last night... maybe they'll stop booing him... Milton Bradley was designated for assignment by Seattle (aka outright released) and his $12 million contract looms... he's certifiable, and he's not hitting... bad combo... Trevor Cahill shuts down Texas on the road... 7 innings, 7 Ks, 1 ER for the A's hurler in a tough place to pitch... continues to impress...
What to watch for on Tuesday...
  • Hawks @ Bulls - TNT 8:00 - the hometown Hawks get the national stage all to themselves tonight... what does that usually mean? a 20-point blowout loss... take it from experience here...
  • Nats @ Braves - SportSouth 7:00 - Marquis vs. Hudson - Braves kick off an 8-game homestand with Washington in town...
  • Cardinals @ Cubs - WGN 8:00 - Carpenter vs. Zambrano - This would've been a better pitching matchup a few years ago, but it's still a pretty decent one
Enjoy...
