8/1: I'm gaining consistency....

Back again....this time because there was yet another huge slew of news to discuss....let's get to it....

• 2(and a half) rather huge deals in MLB.....First being Manny on his way to LA and the Dodgers....In a weird 3-way deal (never hear of 3-ways in baseball really)....Boston lands Jason Bay for him, and the Pirates get a slew of LA prospects....I like the deal for all parties actually...Boston gets a very solid bat with no problems back for Manny, LA gets the guy that can (and will, imo) push them over the top in the division, and Pittsburgh slashes salary and gets young guys (which they always wanna do).....I'm cool with it....
• Deal #2: Griffey to the White Sox...I've said it before and I'll say it again....Ken Griffey Jr. is the best baseball player I've ever seen....not this version...but the pre-Reds version....so he has a soft-spot for me....that said, I do like this deal for CWS....he can still hit (esp. for power) and they got him on the cheap
• Deal #2.5: Pudge to the Yankees....Yes, it's the Yankees so this is huge news...but if you look at NYY and think they have a real shot to win this thing, I'd believe youre nuts....But Pudge is a 1st-ballot hall of famer....going to NY so it's a story
• Ummm....Maybe this Ron-Ron to the Rockets thing won't work after all......Him and Yao are already feuding it seems...hurray
• I don't really care about the Olympic exhibition schedule for the US Hoops team....that said, when I get back....if it's on....count me in...even if the star of Turkey's team is former NC State clown Engin Atsur....laughter....
• Ya know what Pat White (of West Virginia QB fame) is guilty of? Being real.....flat-out....college baseball is almost totally devoid of African-American talent and he just said it....while mentioning his own school in the process...I have no issue here....
• I'm with Dan Shanoff....I'd watch MJ play against 6th graders.....what is about that guy? lol
• The first College football coaches poll is out....I'm usually against this type of speculation...but it COULD potentially matter...well...only once ever...but ask Auburn if it matters...lol....Anyway, UGA #1 and Ohio State #3....Michigan vastly overrated at #24....kill me now...it's going to be a long season...
• Wait...let me get this straight....The Packers would rather pay Brett Favre $20 million to stay away...then to use his rights to their advantage and get some draft picks for him? Makes sense to me....in the bizarro world

7/29: A long absence....News brings me back

I am on a semi-leave of absence because I'm in Oklahoma with very limited internet....but wayyyy too much content available today for me to stay away...

• My Braves deal Mark Teixeira to the Angels for Casey Kotchman and a prospect pitcher....I can handle this move simply because there was about a 1% chance of the Braves signing Tex in the offseason anyway....I think Kotchman is pretty good value....although I do not know his contract status (somebody comment and tell me)....and the Braves are out of it with or without Tex...I'm okay with the move
• Ron Artest on the move! The long-rumored Artest trade has gone down...but the location surprised me...He's on the way to Houston for Bobby Jackson, the rights to Donte Greene, and the Rockets 09 first rounder....Pretty bold from Houston, but if Ron-Ron's head is on straight (not usually) he's quite a player....and a good fit for that team I'd say
• Tim Donaghy only gets 15 months....definitely not enough....
• Kwame Brown latches on in Detroit...for multi-millions....man, who's that guy's agent?
• I'm still done with Brett Favre....but I do feel for Aaron Rodgers....guy needs a shot....
• Oh yeah...I need to weigh in on Maurice Evans to the Hawks....i'm okay with it...but not if they think he's Josh Childress....cuz he's not....And I keep hearing about Josh Smith sign-n-trades.....but i haven't heard a single proposal? Weird....
• 2 more NBA signings....Emeka Okafor for 6/72 mill....and Luol Deng getting near a 6-year deal...bout time these guys got wrapped up reasonably....

7/22: Enough material today....

I decided there was enough to talk about today to actually blog....let's get to it...

• 2 big NFL trades in the last day or 2...Jason Taylor to the Redskins...yawn....and Jeremy Shockey to the Saints...bigger yawn....Taylor is a great player, but in that division....can't see it helping Washington too much....and Shockey is as overrated as they come....and the NFC South is still the league's armpit....
• Josh Childress is thinking about going where!??!?! Apparently J-Chill (for you Ryan) is contemplating a sizable 3-year deal that would see his salary become basically tax-free for him, and invariably cause quite a stir over here as he's not even an NBA cast-off...he's a legit starter/rotation guy in the league....so this is definitely news...as a Hawks fan, I hate this as he's the glue guy to me....best defender on the team, shoots a high percentage, does the little things....Definitely keeping an eye out here
• Oh, is Brett Favre coming back?
• Boy this USA basketball team is small...except...I don't think they are...granted, these guys play the 3 and the 4 in the pros...but honestly, this team isn't at a size disadvantage moreas an attitude one....but I did (finally) hear Coach K say that Lebron could play the 4...and he easily could...it's international ball and the guy is like 260...thank you Coach...Oh yea...and Jason Kidd shouldn't see the floor....at all...
• Paddy Harrington won back-to-back British Open's....I was very intrigued by this...but I have a feeling the public wasn't...and props to the apparently ageless Greg Norman...still playing well and still collapsing....okay, I take that back....
• Last story....Nate Robinson....gets his summer league jersey retired? I have no words here...why would anyone want this honor even? That just means that he's played too many summer league games....but at least I know one person that likes him....hmm hmmmm

Yea...I'm back...my apologies....It took a reminder from a very special person for me to get back here..... but as the summer drags along in the sports world...I'll be here...

• I'll lead with the ASG that I didn't watch....almost 5 hours really? Call it off....please...

• Marcus Camby to the Clippers for....nothing? 10 million dollar trade exception going the other way...in what amounts to a free-agent acquisition for the Clippers....Kaman and Camby provide the closest thing to a "twin towers" in the league now...and with Al Thornton, Baron Davis and the Cuttino Mobley/Eric Gordon 2-guard combo...they look like a lower-level playoff team in the West....Denver....yea...I have no earthly idea....They should still fire George Karl...but that's another day
• Jerryd Bayless tearing up the summer league....can someone tell me how he got to Portland? The NBA should investigate Kevin Pritchard for just being better than anyone else at his job....HGH?
• Signings: James Posey to New Orleans....4 years 25 million seemed like a lot to me earlier...but it's growing on me...he's a nice glue guy for them.... but probably gonna be on the real downside of his career by the end of the deal....Daniel Gibson to Cavs.... Well, not surprising...but since financial terms not out...Not alot to say..he fits there...but not in too big of a role....Patrick O'Bryant to Boston....um anyone remember him? 1st round (lottery, even) pick of Golden State a couple years ago...completely didn't fit in their offense...I like the gamble from Boston...they're in the position to be ballsy
• Roger Clemens got HGH mailed to his house...shocking? naaaa not so much...

7/9: NBA Content! And more

Okay so some NBA content...weird

• Brandon Jennings going to Europe....For those of you that don't know who Brandon Jennings is, he's a top 5 player (Point guard) in the 2008 high school basketball class....and he's opted to go straight to Europe rather than "endure" college life for a year at Arizona...I actually back this decision...would I do it in his spot? No...but I can't hate on it because I think the age limit is actually unconstitutional...he should be able to do what he wants to make a living
• 2 signings that made waves for me...Elton Brand to Philly (making them legit right away) and Corey Maggette to Golden State for their full mid-level....I love the Brand move as they've had a sizable hole at the 4 for years...Maggette....ehhh....too much money for me, but he fits there I think...I do however find it a little odd that GS didn't make a run at Josh Smith but on the bright side (for me) the Clips now have cap room and would be the ideal team to overpay the heck our of Mr. Smith; 2 additional signings: Ronny Turiaf to GS (if the Lakers don't match) and James Jones to Miami...I think both are fits actually

Non-bball material...

• The Cubs dealt for Rich Harden and Gaudin to help them in the pennant race....Harden is filthy...when healthy...but he's never healthy so there that is....I don't know what this does for CHC if Harden gets hurt, but if he's healthy they'll be the dominant favorite (as they were without him)
• The media can finally put the Rich Rodriguez/West Virginia thing behind them.... Michigan and Rodriguez will split the cost of the $4M buyout and bury that story once and for all hopefully.... Maize and blue rejoice!

I will be doing (hopefully if i have time) a full writeup on the Sonics move/deletion of their nickname thing...shameful...

7/6: The Return

Well, that was a long absence...my apologies.....To the sports....

• Leading with...tennis? Yea...I'll go with that....I didn't see really any of this but according to all reports the Nadal/Federer final at Wimbledon was an absolute classic....a 5 set battle that may stimulate interest in men's tennis...I doubt it...but it cant hurt....
• C.C. Sabathia just got dealt to Milwaukee for about 40 cents on the dollar....Milwaukee dealt only prospects and managed to keep their top 2 prospects....while acquiring a top-10 pitcher in all of baseball....that seems a bit like stealing...even if there's no way they can sign him
• This A-Rod/Madonna thing is wildly funny....
• Brad Lidge signs a 37.5 million dollar extension...what's the over/under on elbow surgery for him?
• The MLB All-star rosters are out....There are some problems as always.....Alfonso Soriano starting? yawn....Jason Varitek is honestly God-awful, why don't people know this?...I don't know anymore....
• Chris Paul signed an extension in New Orleans....pretty much ending my dream of him ending up in Atlanta....expletive...
• Last thing....really Brett Favre? GO AWAY! If Ted Thompson takes him back in Green Bay, he should be fired....his coming back would make literally no sense/benefit for their organization....and that is all
