6/28: Beachy, Russell Wilson, etc.

Greetings all... sorry for the weekend absence... the 5-figure word count on the draft probably wore me down a little bit... here we go...
  • The Braves get a 3-1 road win in Seattle last night... Brandon Beachy was electric for the 2nd straight start, going 6 innings, allowing 1 ER and striking out 9... I can't emphasize how good he's been recently, and that's a huge bright spot... Freddie Freeman dealt the decisive blow with a massive 2-run homer to dead-center (not a small feat in Safeco) that showed off some big-time power, and Kimbrel slammed the door striking out the side in the 9th in blitzing fashion... that's a nice win, especially with Pineda and Felix on the docket the next 2...
  • The College World Series isn't an event I care anything about... but if you haven't seen the highlights of South Carolina's defense in the 9th and 10th innings last night, you should at least check that out...
  • Former NC State QB Russell Wilson is on his way to Wisconsin... Wilson has been the best QB in the ACC for a couple years IMO, and it's huge news that, post-graduation, he's decided to attend Wisconsin for a year of grad school (think of Jeremiah Masoli)... that could swing the Big 10 race, and they're immediately the favorite if they weren't already...
  • 1983 NCAA Championship hero Lorenzo Charles passed away yesterday in a bus accident... RIP... the finisher on one of the most famous plays in NCAA history (aka the one where Jimmy V wanders around trying to find someone to hug)....
  • Wimbledon is in full swing, and the women's draw got turned upside down yesterday with both Williams sisters and Wozniacki going down... just an FYI there....
  • And finally, the Dodgers are in bankruptcy... that's big news for many reasons, but MLB is going to have to run things over there for a while... in the meantime? they stroked 25 (!) hits and scored 15 runs last night led by Matt Kemp and his 4-5 with a HR... he's been the best player in baseball this year....
What to watch for on Tuesday...
  • Braves @ Mariners - 10:10 SportSouth - Hanson vs. Pineda - 2 of the most big-time arms in the Majors... young or otherwise... looking forward to watching Pineda work
  • Giants @ Cubs - 2:20 WGN - Vogelsong vs. Davis - Day baseball from Wrigley...
  • Wimbledon - All day ESPN Family - It's starting to heat up...
  • Women's World Cup - All day ESPN Family - High-level women's soccer, if you're into that sort of thing...
  • College World Series Game 2 - ESPN 8:00 - South Carolina on the verge of the title...
Enjoy...
