6/6: Game 3, Plaxico, Nadal/Federer, etc.

Greetings all... my apologies on the absence... let's get it going...
  • Heat 88, Mavs 86 - Dwayne Wade's 29 and 11 led Miami to a W to take the 2-1 lead... Dirk had a fadeaway go begging at the buzzer, and that felt like about the only thing he missed in the 4th quarter (he had 15 in the frame)... the story for me was the utter lack of offensive help that Dirk got in this one... Terry shot 5-13, Barea 2-8, Marion 4-12, and they couldn't even play Peja (just 6 minutes)... Dirk was herculean in the 4th, but it really shouldn't have been as close as it was with how bad the rest of that offense was... on Miami's side, Wade was spectacular throughout, and I still FIRMLY believe that if Miami didn't go away from him in Game 2, this thing would be 3-0 and over... I thought a similar thing happened again for Miami in the late 4th in this one as well... a lot of weird long jumpers from Lebron and company, but they held on to this one... Bosh gets credit for knocking down the game-winner and finishing with 18, but I didn't like the game he played (3 boards? really?)... This is still a series, but Dallas has to get the next 2 or it's bye-bye....
  • Plaxico Burress is a free man... what does this mean? I don't want to go over the debate about his sentencing, etc... but now that he's out, SOMEBODY will take a shot on him... he's 34 years old (ancient for a receiver), and I'm not sure what he'll bring, but he's still a huge, proven target, and teams like Washington, St. Louis, etc. gotta look at him...
  • Rafael Nadal knocks off Federer to win his 10th major... not a huge tennis guy, but you have to appreciate the rivalry here... Nadal kind of owns him on clay, and this was no exception, but the level of tennis in the first 3 sets was, by the evaluation of tennis "analysts", pretty crazy... it's one of the best rivalries in sports...
  • The Big 10 will play it's football championship game in Indianapolis... no surprise here... now if they could only change the division names...
  • Paging the Braves offense... they did scratch 4 runs last night... but managed only 1 run in 8 innings off of RA Dickey... Dan Uggla is an unmitigated disaster at this point (.172, .240, .312), but even outside of that, it hasn't been great... I'm a tad worried about Tim Hudson as well; he doesn't look like the dominant guy he was in 2010 (4+ runs in 4 of his last 10 outings)...
What to watch for on Monday...
  • Dodgers @ Phillies - ESPN 7:00 - Lilly vs. Lee - Nice pitching matchup here for ESPN... go Dodgers...
Light slate tonight... enjoy...
