4/15: NFL Mediation, Baseball, etc.

Greetings everyone... Gonna be short today with no NBA action last night, and I'm prepping for a couple of big things including an NBA Playoff Preview (to appear on Saturday morning).... Just a heads-up, let's get to it...
  • The NFL and the players union are talking again... by force... the 2 sides began discussions again for the first time since the lock-out became "official" in March, thanks to a court ruling that is forcing them to talk... basically, any discussion is "good" discussion for those of us who eagerly await football, but nothing has happened yet...
  • Speaking of CBA talk, David Stern is cracking the whip... just 2 days after Kobe Bryant got docked $100k for the homophobic slur on the court, Phil Jackson AND the Lakers organization were both fined $75K for comments regarding the pending labor negotiations... the comments were honestly tame, but Stern is sending the message that NO ONE can say anything about this...
  • NBA early entries: Josh Selby and Kawhi Leonard are in the draft as of Thursday... Selby is the highly-touted Kansas freshman that had a hugely underwhelming Freshman year and is a fringe prospect, and Leonard was the big-time swingman for SDSU this year, who is capitalizing on how high his stock is... I'm a fan of him...
Baseball...
  • Joe Mauer goes on the DL... with something called "leg weakness"... this is sure to spark (and already has as of this morning) discussions on both his contract, and how long he can remain a catcher... I've honestly never heard of anything like this...
  • The Braves lose yet another series... I don't have the energy to rant on the lack of attendance all week (appalling), but I'm not worried about the squad... the bats are awakening a bit, and after the first inning, the pitching was quite good last night... and my man Freddie Freeman is starting to come alive...
  • Pitching Line of the Day - Cliff Lee - CG, 3 Hits, 12 Ks, 0 ER... Dominant stuff from Lee, silencing the crazy Phillies fans who thought he may be slipping after getting hammered by Atlanta last week...
  • Batting Line of the Day - Nick Markakis - Not a great day for bats... but 3 for 5, HR, 3 RBI, and 2 runs...
What to watch for on Friday...
  • Mets @ Braves - Carrasco vs. Lowe - 7:30 Fox Sports South - Lowe has been outstanding this year despite his 1-2 record, and this is a game Atlanta should win...
Somehow, this the only game I see on the TV schedule... depressing...

Enjoy... Stay tuned for a busy couple of days in this space...
