5/18: Lakers Beatdown, Double-Plays, etc.

Greetings...
  • LA 128, Phoenix 107... well that escalated quickly... a throwback dominant Kobe performance (40,5, and 5 on 13-23) coupled with a fantastic first half from Lamar Odom (15 in the half, 19 total) will get the headlines... but as a team, LA shot 58/47/82 from the field, dominated the glass, and only made 9 turnovers... On the other side... Phoenix played efficiently on offense, but ran into the perfect storm of subpar defense and buzzsaw offense... Nash, Amare and J-Rich were very good offensively, but Amare had all kinds of issues with Gasol on the block, Grant Hill ran into foul issues and couldn't do anything to slow Kobe, and Channing Frye was utterly useless... on the bright side? Robin Lopez looked spry and good... at least there's that...
  • Hanley Ramirez benched for not hustling... if this wasn't in Florida, it'd be huge news when you consider Hanley is (at worst) a top-10 player in the Majors... can't excuse the play after seeing him jog after a ball that he misplayed...
Baseball...
  • Pitching Line of the Day - Edwin Jackson.. back from the dead with 8 IP, 4 H, 0 ER, 12 Ks for Arizona..
  • Batting Line of the Day - Justin Morneau - 3-4, 2 HR, 4 RBI
  • The Braves go down at home.... wasting a decent Derek Lowe effort by hitting into 3 more double plays... yes, 3 more... 1 for 7 with RISP as well...
What to watch for...
  • NBA Draft Lottery ESPN 7:30 - Tons of scenarios here... New Orleans/Utah/Minnesota would all have giant decisions to make if they get #1 (i.e. they already have point guards and John Wall is the consensus #1)... Always great TV, and if you're a Lebron-following Zombie, it could affect where he goes as well
  • Celtics/Magic - 8:30 ESPN Game 2... Must-win for Orlando... can't lose both at home to start the series to have a legit shot...
  • Mets/Braves - 7:00 Peachtree TV - Santana/Medlen... On paper the worst pitching matchup of the series as a Braves fan... but Medlen is pitching well... Fun fact... Johan Santana is 1-5 lifetime against the Braves... but he has a 2.21 ERA with 38 Ks in 53 innings... weird
