5/7: Magic 2-0, Russell Cut, etc.

Greetings... Abbreviated version today...
  • Orlando takes a 2-0 lead.... meh... an encouraging/competitive showing from the Hawks for 3 quarters... then Jameer Nelson hit the bank 3 at the buzzer of the 3rd, and suddenly it was a 19-point game... Jamal Crawford shot the Hawks out of it in the 4th along with some typical low basketball IQ play from Josh Smith, and the overall unimpressiveness (that's not even a word) of Marvin Williams... Dwight Howard was unstoppable pretty much every minute he was on the court (29 and 17), and I expect that to continue if and when he plays with this same aggression in Atlanta... Al Horford was the best player on the court for the Hawks... and that's 5 straight games where the best player wasn't Joe Johnson... 5-16 for 19 points isn't going to do it... it really isn't... and Vince Carter is showing him up to boot
  • Jamarcus Russell cut by Oakland... it's almost sad... fastest demise I can remember from a non-Ryan Leaf QB taken this high... not surprised... but what do you even say? He'll get another shot because someone will work him out and see his arm... but I just don't see it... he weighs 290 pounds, had 1 decent college season, and isn't accurate...
  • Lawrence Taylor... eh... I don't really have a comment... my only advice is not to convict people before they are convicted..
  • The Braves situational hitting is pretty bad... back-to-back innings with guys on 3rd and less than 2 outs in the 8th and 9th... double plays both times... and the subsequent implosion by Moylan in the bottom half of the 9th.. you can't lose series to Washington...
What to watch for tonight...
  • Cavs/Celtics - 7:00 ESPN... Please stop talking to me about Lebron's elbow... please
  • Suns/Spurs - 9:30 ESPN... obvious must-win for San Antonio
  • Braves/Phillies - 7:00 SportSouth... Lowe vs. Moyer in the battle of the ancient... and Jamie Moyer owns the Braves... count me excited...
