3/22: Bruce Pearl Fired, Duncan, etc...

Greetings all...
  • Bruce Pearl axed at Tennessee... The world saw this coming, but it was confirmed on Monday... I'm sure the 30-point loss to Michigan didn't help, but it was possible (even likely) that nothing Pearl did in the SEC/NCAA tournaments mattered when discussing saving his job... too much turmoil, too many violations, and an AD who through him under a giant moving bus... see ya...
  • Tim Duncan sprained his left ankle on Monday in San Antonio's 111-96 win over Golden State... sounds pretty ho-hum, right?.... well, wrong.... This is a huge story... It's not "serious", but the Spurs have been remarkably healthy thus far, and they simply can't afford to lose Duncan for any extended period of time... knowing Pop, I'm sure he'll sit him longer than he needs to sit, but they need him to make a run...
  • NBA Check - The Dwight Howard MVP train keeps rolling... he's not getting the buzz that Rose is getting, but Dwight is CARRYING Orlando... 28 and 18 last night in their road win in Cleveland, and the first guy since Hakeem to notch 4 steals and 4 blocks with similar points/rebounds numbers... Boston locks down NY in the 2nd half... 59-35 was the 2nd half tally in this one, and Garnett led the way with 24 and 11... Neither Melo or Amare notched a FG in the fourth... Chicago blows out Sacto... not really noteworthy... but 132-92 is eye-catching, and it's the Bulls 50th win... impressive... and Denver continues to click... jarring Toronto by 33... Ty Lawson led 7 guys in double-digits with 23...
  • Gonzaga women's hoops player Courtney Vandersloot set an NCAA record by becoming the first player (male or female) to notch 2,000 points and 1,000 assists in a career... big-ups...

What to watch for...

  • Bulls @ Hawks - TNT 8:00 - This has special significance... because I have court-side seats for the first time in my life... anyway... Chicago has been chirping about revenge since they blew that huge lead in ATL on their last visit... I hope the Hawks show up...
  • Suns @ Lakers - TNT 10:30 - LA is really rolling right now... can't imagine Phoenix has too much of a shot here on the road...
  • And again... if you need college hoops... Colorado vs. Kent State on ESPN at 9:00...

Enjoy..
