3/6: Afternoon Quick Hits...

Greetings all... Sorry for the late posting... couple things before I tell you what's going on this evening...
  • Reports are saying that the Saints ownership is "backing" head coach Sean Payton. As you well know by now, there is a massive scandal brewing in New Orleans on the heels of a giant report concerning a "bounty" program with the Saints, but all indications are that Sean Payton's job is safe (Greg Williams is already gone)... for now.
  • Speaking of New Orleans, they had Randy Moss in for a workout yesterday. Yes, that Randy Moss. Probably not the best time to bring a malcontent like Randy in, no?
  • And a quick hoops check from Monday night: Saint Mary's won the WCC last night on the strength of an overtime win against the Zags. This was an epic battle between that conference's 2 flagship programs that saw Elias Harris (22 and 12) hit a game-tying triple to send it to OT for Gonzaga, but it was too much of the Gaels down the stretch. Both teams are tourney-bound. Davidson makes a return trip to the tourney after winning the SoCon title in a wild, 2-OT battle with Western Carolina. Congrats to them. And in the association, Kevin Love went for an absurd 39 and 17 in beating the Clips at home 95-94, and Dwight Howard posted a ho-hum 36 and 13 in Orlando's road win in Toronto.

What to watch for on Tuesday...

  • NBA - Hawks @ Pacers - 7:00 SportSouth - Two East playoff teams squaring off here, and Joe Johnson looks to return for Atlanta.
  • NCAAB - Sun Belt Title Game - 7:00 ESPN2 - On a day headlined by the start of the Big East tourney this afternoon (sorry again for the late notice), North Texas and Western Kentucky battle it out for a tourney bid. Entertaining.
  • NBA - Knicks @ Mavs - 8:30 NBA-TV - The Knicks are fascinating, and if you add in the defending champs, that's a nice game.
  • NCAAB - Horizon Title Game - 9:00 ESPN2 - This is a better, more high-quality game than the earlier one as Detroit and Valpo battle for this one.

Enjoy...
