11/1: NFL Wrap, Giants Pulling Away, etc.

Lots to get to on this Monday... We'll go NFL first...
  • Green Bay 9, NYJ 0 - Umm.. wow... didn't see the shutout coming here... Green Bay has a nasty defense at times, so it's not a surprise they could overwhelm what can be a stagnant Jets offense, but again... no one saw this... The Jets defense did their part in slowing down Aaron Rodgers and company, but you can't win if you don't score (news flash)... The Jets are still an elite team IMO, but this was ugly...
  • Detroit 37, Washington 25 - The hits keep coming for McNabb and the 'Skins... Donovan was pulled/benched late here... but giving up 37 points seems to be more of an issue to me... Detroit is frisky... they have a bunch of close losses, and Stafford looked very good... could be a dangerous team down the stretch...
  • KC 13, Buffalo 10 - Man, the Bills can't get a break... Lindell drilled a 53-yard field goal into the wind only to have it nullified by one of those last-second timeouts, promptly hit the upright with the next one, and that was enough to open the door for Cassel and company... The Chiefs ran wild (Charles for 177, Jones for 77), and controled the ball for the duraion... another win for the Chiefs though...
  • Miami 22, Cincy 14 - The Bengals are officially bad... that's what I take from this game... Palmer threw at least 2 INTs that were dropped (one that became a TD) and they still lost this game by 8 at home... page turned...
  • Jacksonville 35, Dallas 17 - We can now stop discussing Dallas nationally... right? Kitna was an abomination, they got the doors blown off by a mediocre (at best) Jacksonville team at home, and have 6 losses... good night
  • San Diego 33, Tennessee 25 - The opposite of Dallas? San Diego... a team that never lets you bury them, especially in that division, by coming alive around this time every year... the record is ugly, but clearly they aren't scared of the Chiefs and Raiders, and they have the best QB in the division... sometimes it's simple...
  • Tampa 38, Arizona 35 - Josh Freeman wins football games.... lol... I laughed when Bill Simmons wrote it but it may be true?... Anyway, Tampa's D was bad here... 35 to a paltry Cards offense, but they continue to walk among the raindrops... in a normal sports argument with my friend James last night (shout-out sir), I noticed that Tampa has a -27 point differential... and they're 5-2?... huh?... Expect a regression to the mean here... but hey... Josh Freeman wins football games...
  • New England 28, Minnesota 18 - The list of teams that have 1 loss.... ready?... New England... End of list... the Pats keep chugging along, and after all of the panic following and around the Moss trade about them "punting" the season... they stand as the AFC favorite at this moment... Brady is Brady, they are getting crazy production from someone named Danny Woodhead (lol), and the defense is suddenly bowing up a bit... I don't take much from beating a down-trodden Vikings team with Favre on one leg, but they keep winning...
  • Oakland 33, Seattle 3 - Is Oakland good? I still don't think so, but the signs are there... Jason Campbell was chucking it all over the yard yesterday, and they ran for 200+ (again) behind McFadden and company... I think alot of it has to do with some fluke plays, and the fact that Seattle is a bit of a trainwreck on the road (sorry Ryan), but Oakland is in a nice spot in the AFC west right now... and Darren McFadden is looking like the guy that anyone who saw him at Arkansas thought he would be...
  • New Orleans 20, Pittsburgh 10 - I found myself actively rooting for the Steelers here and that was an automatic with the Saints in the NFC South... what I didn't enjoy? Seeing Drew Brees get his mojo back before our very eyes... 20-22 in the 2nd half against the league's best defense, and he did it with precision and in big spots... look out for New Orleans... I do have a bone to pick with Sean Payton though... why is Julius Jones getting carries? Wait.. I'm a Falcons fan... keep giving the ball to Julius Jones! He's Great!...
THE PICKS WRAP-UP! (17-21 Entering the weekend)
  • Northwestern -3... Push!
  • Florida +3... Win!
  • Auburn -7... Win!
  • Texas -7.5... Loss!
  • Oregon State -2.5... Win!
  • St. Louis - 3... Win!
  • Seattle +1.5... Loss!
  • Indy -5.5... Pending! (lol)
A nice bounceback week for your boy... 4-2-1 with Indy pending and a more respectable 21-23-1 mark now... go Colts...

Elsewhere...
  • The Giants take a commanding 3-1 lead in the World Series behind 8 shutout innings from Madison Bumgarner... the kid was great last night, and at 21 years old, looks unflappable... the series isn't over (still) with Cliff Lee looming in Game 5 for Texas, and all those bats... but it's looking ugly for Texas mainly because they'd have to beat Matt Cain in Game 6... in San Fran...
  • Oregon jumps Auburn for #1 in the BCS... it's ultimately irrelevant... but it'd be a minor travesty if Oregon wasn't number 1 after how they've looked all season... but I do have an issue with everyone talking about how USC was their "big test" and how their "schedule opens up"... They still have to play a good Arizona team at home, go to Cal, and finish with rival (and giant killer) Oregon State on the road... it's not over...
  • Lebron James admitted that he'd do the decision differently if he had to do it again... it only took him 4 months... congratulations...
  • The Jazz beat up on OKC... in OKC... a 120-99 trouncing that alleviates some of the "what the heck is wrong with Utah" conversation... Millsap puts up 30 and 16 and was dominant... but a weird game for OKC... Durant/Westbrook/Green combined for 67... and they lost by 21 at home... not a good night for the supporting cast...
  • The Heat trounce the Nets in NJ... not a surprise... but it was kind of nice to cease the Nets buzz that for some reason was bopping around after their 2-0 start... they were who we thought they were...
What to watch for...
  • World Series Game 5 - Lee/Lincecum - FOX 7:57 - Well... can't go wrong with those 2 pitchers... and if it's 11-7 again tonight, I don't even know what to say...
  • Monday Night Football - Texans/Colts - ESPN 8:30 - Colts trying to avoid the season-series sweep (and they tiebreaker edge) without Collie/Clark and probably Addai... Peyton Manning at night though... GL Texans...
  • Portland @ Chicago - 8:00 NBATV - A quietly nice game...
That'll do it for me...
