11/3: John Wall, A Postponed NBA Game, etc.

And aloha means hello (in this case)...
  • John Wall burst into the collective consciousness (even further) last night with a ridiculous 29 point, 13 assist, 9 steal (!) game in an OT win for the Wiz... he took over the 2nd half Saturday in Atlanta, but this was a full-scale breakout from the jump... 9 steals is ridiculous on its own.. but 29 and 13 to go with it? He's still careless-ish with the ball (8 TOs), but he's strapped the squad to his back twice now... that's a good sign...
  • The Knicks/Magic game at Madison Square Garden was postponed due to... asbestos? After a late night cleaning the night before, there was material falling from the ceiling... that's an issue... in the "world's most famous arena" it becomes even more magnified...
  • Somehow the lead story on ESPN's headlines this morning is... "Moss rant irked Vikes"... oh yeah? Isn't that common knowledge? He basically went to the microphone and did an interview with himself, including a ridiculous amount of abject praise for the team he just left, which indirectly craps on the team he was traded to... we needed a "report" from "sources" on this?...
  • The Hawks go to 4-0... Not a big story... teams win 4 straight all the time... I get that... the bigger story? 3-0 on the road... for reference sake, the 53-win version of the 2009-10 Atlanta Hawks went 19-22 on the road... 3-0 is an accomplishment even if the teams that have stood in the way aren't exactly the cream of the crop... they went out and took care of business in Cleveland last night, leading wire to wire and enjoying a nice game from Marvin Williams (22 points on 12 shots) and overcoming 9 for 32 combined from Smith and Johnson... that's a nice win...
  • Box Score Check: JJ Hickson... NBA star?... That was the buzz preseason and he put up the best game of his young career last night with 31 in the loss... I don't see the "star" upside, but he's a nice player... Rajon Rondo continues to be absurd.. 17 more assists last night (and 4 steals) to bring his season average to... 16.8 assists per... there are legit star PGs with career highs under 17 assists... he's averaging it through 4... and by the way... he had 0 turnovers! none!.... Free Kevin Love! This may become a nightly thing with how he is playing... 7-11, 20 points, 6 boards in 26 minutes... and the single weirdest stat of the night? Lebron James who managed to go 20 points, 12 dimes and a +32 +/- (best in the game)... without registering a rebound in 32 minutes... 0 rebounds! He's 6'8, 250!...
What to watch for...
  • Bucks/Celtics - 8:00 ESPN - First national look at Milwaukee... worth the price of admission to see Jennings vs. Rondo...
  • Lakers/Kings - 10:30 ESPN - Sacto on national TV? That's what Tyreke Evans and rookie Demarcus Cousins will do... LA is the other 4-0 team in the league (not shocking), and this'll be a nice test for Sacramento...
  • Pistons/Hawks - 7:00 SportSouth - Typical letdown spot... facing a bad-team... 2nd night of back-to-back.. but Atlanta is very good at home usually, and this is a game you need to win long-term... I'm excited to see Greg Monroe...
Enjoy the slate... Keep an eye out for the NCAA and NFL weekend previews to come soon...
