11/12: Falcons/Ravens, Celtics/Heat, and more...

And... boom goes the dynamite...

  • Your 7-2 Atlanta Falcons... really kind of a wild game last night... 50 pass attempts for Matt Ryan (in a game where they led throughout), 17 for 39 for Turner, 2 giant drops by Roddy White, and a "questionable" non-pass interference call on the clinching TD... I was impressed with the Falcons defense for the first 55 minutes... they got off the field on 3rd down, keeping the T.O.P. firmly in Atlanta's favor all night, and made Flacco look pedestrian... until the last 2 drives, where Baltimore systematically marched down the field, and it was clear Atlanta couldn't contain Anquan Boldin... At any rate, the running game's performance left alot to be desired, but on the other hand, Matt Ryan showed the capability all night, especially on the last drive, to carry the offense and Roddy White is one of the league's best... encouraging night overall....

  • Boston 112, Miami 107 - This game wasn't that close... First of all, I thought Lebron was great all night... despite not having his jumper going, he was dominant (35/10/9) and nearly brought them back late... Dwyane Wade was as bad as you'll ever see him.. never in the flow of the offense (is there a flow to this offense?), 2-12 shooting and a game-worst -17 +/- rating... Boston is the much better team right now... one of the 3-4 deepest teams in the league against one of the shallowest in Miami... and they did it with Semih Erden playing 8 minutes in the stead of Jermaine O'Neal... Allen was fantastic (35 points, 7 threes), Rondo was Rondo (16 dimes), and Pierce and Garnett did what they do best... it was a typical Celtics road demolition... The questions about for Miami... chiefly... offensively?... It seemed that the national pundits just assumed "they have Wade and LBJ... offense won't be an issue!"... which clearly isn't the case when they are leading the league in defensive efficiency... and have 4 losses... this offense is a mess right now... Bosh is passive, Wade and Lebron are never going well at the same time, and guys 4 through 10 on this team are all offensively deficient... This problem isn't going away...

  • Lakers/Nuggets - The champs go down... Carmelo put out an effortless 32 and 13 and the second unit (led by Ty Lawson) carried the Nuggets to their late charge and a big win... Fairly impressive from Denver without Birdman and Martin, but LA was due for a road loss and this isn't a bad loss for them... the only concern? Getting blasted in the 4th (33-19), and the JR Smith/Gary Forbes/Ty Lawson trio going off late... kind-of flukeish... I'd be neglectful if I didn't mention that Pau Gasol went for 17 and 20 boards... he's good...
  • Brett Favre announced he isn't coming back for 2011.. in other news, I ate a grilled chicken sandwich last night... you decide which action is more relevant...
  • The NCAA rules Kentucky super-frosh Enes Kanter ineligible... this is a big blow to the rotating door that UK has become... he was their top-rated recruit, and with the style of program Calipari has implemented, they can't afford to miss on these guys...

What to watch for....

  • Hawks/Jazz - 7:00 ESPN - Utah comes to Philips Arena tonight... fresh off 3 of the weirder games you'll ever see.... they're a bad matchup for Atlanta too b/c Deron Williams can pretty much go at anyone on the Hawks roster, and there's not a particularly good matchup for Millsap either...
  • Blazers/Thunder - 9:30 ESPN - Always an entertaining matchup...
  • Boise State @ Idaho - 9:00 ESPN2 - Boise is a 5 touchdown favorite here... so you have to be pretty consumed with college football to tune in... but hey... to each his own...

Thanks for your patronage.. don't forget to check out the CFB and NFL Previews... enjoy the weekend!
