11/14: CFB Wrap, and more...

Greetings all... straight to college football...
  • Oregon 15, Cal 13 - The toughest test for Oregon to date (as predicted right here in this space may I add, lol)... Cal's a good home team with a feisty (top ranked in the Pac-10) defense, and Oregon looked human... There's been a lot of buzz about Cal missing the "game-winning" field goal... that is a bit of an oversight for me... Oregon marched down the field after that, and were easily in scoring distance, but they took a knee b/c they didn't need to score... let's all slow down... LaMichael James managed under 100 yards and didn't have a rushing TD for the first time all year... Falls out of the Heisman race?... I don't know... Speaking of Heisman...

  • Auburn 49, Georgia 31 - Cam Newton was electric... 12 of 15 passing with 2 touchdowns and an INT... not THAT crazy right? Well.. consider this... his INT? Perfect throw that was dropped/tipped by his receiver and picked... and he also has a flawless deep ball thrown to Mario Fannin that would've been a TD had it not been dropped... he was darn near perfect here... and oh yeah, 150 rushing... Auburn showed off that weak spot though in the form of their secondary... Aaron Murray looked fantastic (encouraging for the future for UGA) in throwing for 273 and 3 TDs... but Georgia couldn't stop Auburn... I don't know who can...

  • TCU struggles... but wins... Will a 40-35 home victory over a subpar SDSU team hurt them? I'm not sure.. but the offense exploded after being down 14-0, and Andy Dalton should be getting Heisman talk, especially if Kellen Moore is...

  • The 1-loss team no one is talking about? Stanford... they snuck by on the road in Tempe last night... There's no way for them to get into the title hunt (I don't think) because, much like LSU, they can't win their conference title without the unforeseeable happening... but that's a legit team...

  • Wisconsin 83, Indiana 20... Yes, that score is correct... Wisconsin is firing on all cylinders... that's not a dreadful Indiana team... 83?! in the big 10!?... Ludicrous... Nobody wants to play Wisky right now... so naturally, Michigan draws them next week... I will now put my head in a blender....

  • Is Oklahoma State legit?... There's a sleeper national title contender... ready for this? They throttle Texas on the road (I know Texas stinks.. hear me out)... they still get to play Oklahoma AND have Nebraska in the Big 12 title game... Would the voters really leave a 12-1 OK State team that just beat Nebraska on a neutral field and Oklahoma out of the title game for Boise/TCU?... Same for Nebraska if they win out, and beat a 1-loss OK State team?...

  • Alabama throttles Mississippi State... the stage is set now... I still think Alabama is the elixir for Auburn, and they looked great against a real, live MSU team.... Showdown Friday after Thanksgiving...

  • Notre Dame 28, Utah 3 - A huge blow for TCU... both in perception and probably the computers... Utah gets blown out by a bad ND team? That was the TCU signature win... looks awfully tainted now, whereas Boise's win over VT looks better every day...

  • Iowa goes down in Evanston... Northwestern is feisty, and for some reason they seem to own Iowa... but this pretty much knocks the Hawkeyes out of the Big 10 race... unless they beat Ohio State, Michigan beats Wisconsin, and then... oh wait, nevermind...

  • South Carolina wins the SEC East... I don't particularly care about this... but it matters because they get to face Auburn in the title game and possibly throw a wrench in their season (if they beat Bama, blah blah blah)... Marcus Lattimore is a beast though... 200+ yards on 40 carries in this one... Urban Meyer's been exposed a bit this year.. this was a blowout in Gainesville...

  • And the obligatory Michigan mention... One of the ugliest games in my recent memory, regardless of Michigan involvement... 10 turnovers (5 each), a missed FG, a missed XP (both by Michigan), and Denard Robinson turning it over 4 times alone... and Michigan wins a road game?... Purdue is wretched... I get that... but the Michigan defense showed signs of life (zero offensive touchdowns for Purdue, 2 of the 3 field goals were directly following Michigan turnovers)... Slightly encouraged... mostly because I know Shoelace isn't as bad as he looked, and it was the best game of Vincent Smith's career...
THE PICKS! (26-26-1 entering)
  • Northwestern +10... Outright winner!
  • Cal +20... Winner!
  • Alabama -13... Winner!
Whoa... 3-0 week and we're in the black... 29-26-1 with NFL pending...

Elsewhere in the Sports world...
  • Manny Pacquiao destroys Margarito... unanimous decision and total domination... I saw the majority of this (cough, illegally) and it was pretty much a clinic by the Pacman... not surprising... unfortunately, boxing is virtually dead, and badly needs Pacquiao/Mayweather... soon...
  • NBA Boxscore check - Nazr Mohammed had the 4th 20-20 game in the NBA this year... Nazr!... Rajon Rondo had yet another 17 assist game... are we talking about 14-15 assists per game for the season here?... The Hornets are 8-0 in demolishing a good Portland team... CP3 and the troops are looking impressive.. Milwaukee and Golden State played a 79-72 game last night... not THAT crazy until you realize that GS was involved... I can't imagine what a game in the 70s looks like when it involves that team... and lastly, Gilbert Arenas lives!... 11-22 FG, 30 points, 6 boards for Gilbert... I'm happy for him....
  • Donovan McNabb and the Redskins are in contract extension talks... for a 4 year deal... what?!?! Doesn't Mike Shanahan hate McNabb? I don't get this...

What to watch for...
  • NFL - All Day - Check the NFL Preview for the Full slate... but obviously the Steelers/Pats primetime game is the headliner... Tom Brady son...
  • T-Wolves/Hawks - 2:00 SportSouth - If you don't like football, or are an unabashedly crazy Hawks fan such as myself... The Kevin Love traveling roadshow coming to town... lol...
  • Rockets/Knicks - 7:30 NBA-TV - This has to be a game Houston can win.. right?... anyone?...
Enjoy...
