11/2: Giants Triumph, Colts/Texans, etc.

Greetings all...
  • The San Francisco Giants are your 2010 World Series champions... read that sentence again... I'll be the first to say that I didn't see anyone getting past Philly in the NL, and that I didn't see SF taking down Texas either... but Lincecum bested Lee in both starts (the dagger) and was fantastic in Game 5... they got clutch hitting through the whole playoffs, and that was embodied by Edgar Renteria (yes, Edgar Renteria) smashing the series-winning HR last night... great for that fanbase, and it's always better when the National League wins...
  • The following people started on offense for Indianapolis last night... Mike Hart, Blair White, Anthony Gonzalez, and someone named Jacob Tamme... and they won by 13 points... Peyton Manning is good, folks... anyway, Mike Hart looked infinitely better than Donald Brown (not a shock to this blogger, lol), and Tamme made me look smart for saying the Dallas Clark loss wouldn't be an impact one... for Houston? Matt Schaub looked a bit off all night, likely having to do with Dwight Freeney taking up residence in the backfield, but Andre Johnson and Arian Foster looked quite good... order restored in the AFC South...
  • NBA Rookie Extension Deadline last night... First of all, my man Al Horford gets locked down with 5 years and 60 million... love it... reasonable money, and an actual financial investment from the Hawks front office that I can support... Definitely brings up questions about the futures of Josh Smith and Marvin Williams... but we'll get there when we get there.... Jared Dudley signs for 5 years, 22.5 million... I love Mr. Dudley even back to BC, so I'm a fan of the move and the contract seems financially sound when you put it against the moves from this past offseason... and the move I'm about to mention (that gets its own bullet)...
  • Mike Conley... 5 years...45 million dollars... from the Memphis Grizzlies... long-time readers and friends know that I love him... it's irrational even... but even I raised more than just an eyebrow about this move... that's an absurd amount of money for a guy who isn't top-20 at his position, and they did it at a time where they still have not locked down Marc Gasol or OJ Mayo (their best 2 players in my opinion)... funniest development? NBA blogger Zach Harper from hardwood paroxysm rants... and rants... and rants... on this at his twitter account (@HPbasketball) and this tumblr account (http://hponconley.tumblr.com/)... a must-read... it's Dennis Green/Herm Edwards all over again...
  • Randy Moss got waived... WAIVED! They dealt a 3rd rounder for him less than a month ago... I've never, ever heard of a top-10 guy at their position being outright let go midseason like this... much less after just acquiring him... one of the weirder stories ever... this stuff seems to follow Randy though, alas, I'm sure the Rams, Redskins, Seahawks, Bears, or even Patriots will be in line to sign him/claim him...
  • Jamarcus Russell is working out for the Washington Redskins... I thought this was a joke when it came over the wire this morning... that's all that needs to be said...
  • NBA Box Score Check - Luol Deng put up 40 points last night... 40... against Nic Batum (!), basically he shot out of his mind (14-19 fg, 3-5 threes, 9-11 FTs) and it all came together in the Bulls 110-98 win... Lamarcus Aldridge, he of 33 and 9, tried to keep Portland in it, but couldn't...Someone named Gary Neal dropped 16 points in 20 minutes for the Spurs off the bench last night... I can't stress enough how weird it is to have someone on the Spurs I've never heard of.. but they did it... and my favorite line of the night... Andrea Bargnani throws up 28 points... good right? 10-17 shooting.. good... he had 2 rebounds in 36 minutes... he's a center... lol...
What to watch for tonight...
  • Hawks/Cavs - 7:00 SportSouth - A chance to go 3-0 on the road out of the gate... in a winnable spot no less...
  • Grizzlies/Lakers - 10:30 NBATV - Watch Mike Conley take on Derek Fisher!
  • 30 for 30 - Marion Jones - ESPN 8:00 - I gotta be honest, this is my least favorite 30 for 30 premise... I'm sure it'll be well-produced but the trailer seems to glorify her a bit... word?...
Watch for Braves Offseason part 3 coming later today...
