12/12: NFL Wrap, CP3, etc.

Greetings all... let's get the other stuff out of the way, then wrap up the NFL Sunday...
  • CP3 to the Clips?... As of Sunday, the Lakers/Rockets/Hornets 3-way deal was dead, and now on Monday morning, there has been a deal between the Clippers and Hornets submitted to the league for approval... Eric Gordon, Al-Farouq Aminu, Chris Kaman, and the 2012 #1 pick that LAC acquired from the T-Wolves would be headed to New Orleans (along with possibly Eric Bledsoe, that's unclear).... with Paul headed to LA... this is actually a pretty nice haul for the Hornets headlined by Gordon (a consensus top 3-4 shooting guard in the league when healthy) and an extremely valuable #1 pick that is likely to be a top-5 selection in a loaded draft this summer.... also, Aminu is a lottery pick, and Kaman is an above-average center... pretty solid... IF it goes through... paging Stern...
  • Lamar Odom to the Mavs for a protected 1st-round pick.... what a weird situation... after Odom was publicly dealt to New Orleans (and rescinded), he requested a trade and this is what LA came up with... this is an absolute fleecing for the Mavs, as the pick will likely be a bad one, and they simply used a trade exception to require a top-50 player... for LA?... Kobe is furious (and understandably so) as they got noticeably worse in an instant, and now have no insurance for the inevitable Andrew Bynum injury... rough week for the Lakers..
  • 8 people were suspended after the Cincy-Xavier fight from Saturday that turned into an absolute melee... I kinda thought the suspensions would be worse...

To the NFL...

  • Giants 37, Cowboys 34 - What a collapse by the Cowboys... Dallas took a 12 point lead with under 6 minutes to go, but in typical Cowboy fashion, let this one slip away behind some curious play-calling (the wheel route on 3rd down on the final drive), bad execution (see: the wheel route lol it was wide open), and another kicking blunder surrounding a timeout... you would've had to see it to believe it... and poor Dan Bailey... he keeps making the first kick...
  • Falcons 31, Panthers 23 - When the Panthers took a 23-7 lead, you could almost see the playoffs vanish for the Falcons... and then they realized "hey, we're better than them" and Cam Newton obliged with back-to-back INTs in the 3rd quarter to get it going... Matt Ryan had a nice game (really, second half) with 320 yards, 4 TDs and 0 INT despite giving up an inexcusable safety early, and they managed to win this one without much from Turner (76 yards on 21 carries)... wins are wins...
  • Houston 20, Cincy 19 - How bout TJ Yates?... The UNC product brought the Texans back from 9 down, and scored on a last-second TD pass to Kevin Walter to seal the division title (the first in Texans history)... that's a great story... he's helped by that elite defense and running game, but he's impressed... brutal loss for Cincy...
  • New Orleans 22, Tennessee 17 - So close for Jake Locker and company... the Titans had the ball inside the NO 5 yard line late, and couldn't punch it in before the clock ran out... New Orleans steals a win that likely seals the division title for them barring collapse, and Tennessee's wild card hopes are dimmer today.... oh, and Drew Brees is good... 337 yards, 2 TDs, 0 INT...
  • Denver 13, Chicago 10 (OT) - Tim. Tebow. It would be crazy to give him all the credit here because Denver amassed just 345 total yards, and Matt Prater hit 2 ridiculous 50-plus yard bombs to win this thing for the Broncos, but Tebow made every play down the stretch (cue this every week), and limited mistakes yet again... Big props to Denver's defense though... and I kinda feel bad for Marion Barber because of the pile-on effect today, but you gotta get down in-bounds...
  • Arizona 21, San Fran 19 - Wow... there's the San Fran I was waiting on!... John Skelton led a comeback from 12 points down (lol) to win this one for Arizona... Alex Smith was 18 of 37 for 175 yards... yeah... I don't think this means all that much for the Niners, as it was probably a let-down game after clinching the division title... but eesh...
  • Green Bay 46, Oakland 16 - It wasn't as close as the score indicated... that's all I need to say...
  • San Diego 37, Buffalo 10 - San Diego is hot (typical), Buffalo has fallen off the earth (how's that Fitzpatrick extension looking right now?)... but I am so sick of the Chargers...

What to watch for on Monday...

  • Rams @ Seahawks - 8:30 ESPN - I have to put this here because it's Monday Night Football, but wow is this a bad game... St. Louis is down to it's 3rd QB, and Seattle should cruise at home...

That's about it... slow night...
