- Floyd Mayweather is going to jail... 90-day sentence starting in January for a domestic issue, and yet another wrench in the possible Pacquiao fight... It is borderline hilarious to me (always has been) that Floyd is possibly the best technical/fundamental, defensive-minded fighter of all-time, because that flat-out contradicts his entire persona...
- Kobe has a torn wrist ligament... In the Lakers preview (check it out), it was already discussed how frighteningly shallow the Lakers roster is, and Kobe being out (or limited) for any period of time is hugely damaging to them... I already believed it's a flawed team if Kobe is firing on all cylinders, and if not? They can miss the playoffs...
- Pitt hires Wisconsin's Paul Chryst as head coach... in their 4th coaching hire in 13 months (wow), I think they've gotten it right... Chryst was a below-the-radar hire, but that offense has been consistently good for a long time, and they need to stay out of the headlines for a while...
- UNC crushes Texas in hoops... 82-63 final led by Harrison Barnes' season-high 26 points and 10 boards... Myck Kabongo was a complete non-factor for Texas (15 minutes, 1 point, 4 turnovers), and they just didn't have the firepower to really compete...
- Sam Dalembert to the Rockets on a 2-year deal... this is a great signing for Houston because they don't have a true center on the roster, and he's a nice fit next to Scola... that's suddenly a very intriguing team because they have so much depth (helpful in a shortened campaign) and someone to protect the rim... if Scola and Martin don't get bogged down following their "non-trade", that's a playoff contender...
What to watch for on Thursday...
- St. Mary's @ Baylor - ESPN3 10:30 - I can't fathom why this game isn't on TV, but if you get ESPN3 check it out... St. Mary's is a WCC contender yet again, and Baylor is fun to watch...
- Illinois @ Missouri - ESPN2 9:00 - Really nice game here... The Illini finally dropped a game, but a combined 22-1 record between these teams and a midwest rivalry...
- Long Beach St. vs. Xavier - ESPNU 11:00 - This is an awesome game... LBSU has 5 losses, but all are to top-flight teams, and Xavier gets Tu Holloway back from suspension here...
- Memphis @ Georgetown - ESPN2 7:00 - 2 of the biggest coaching differences in the country with JT3's inexplicable use of the Princeton offense, and Memphis never running anything under Pastner... and I mean anything...
- MAACO Bowl - Arizona State vs. Boise State - ESPN 8:00 - Best bowl matchup so far just because Boise is in it...
- Texans @ Colts - NFL Network 8:20 - This would get top billing as the NFL game if the Colts weren't involved... meaningless...
