12/19: Lack of Perfection...

Greetings all... let's hit the NFL games first...
  • Chiefs 19, Packers 14 - In clearly the biggest upset of the NFL season thus far, the Chiefs entered the game 5-8 and coming off a week that saw Todd Haley fired... and subsequently held Aaron Rodgers and company to 14 points and ended the quest for perfection... Kyle Orton outplayed Rodgers (lol), Green bay had several dropped passes, and Ryan Succop hit all 4 field goal attempts to lead KC to the win... what does it mean as far as the Super Bowl? Nothing IMO... Green Bay is still the favorite by any measure, but the chance of them being historically great is pretty much over...
  • New England 41, Denver 23 - Insert Tebow joke here... but know this... he definitely didn't lose this game (as well as not winning all the others, etc.)... Tom Brady is very good (this just in), and had his way with the Denver secondary to the tune of 320 yards and 2 TDs as well as contributing a rushing score... that's basically the story of the game... as far as Tebow, he ran the ball well (93 yards, 2 TDs) and posted an 80.5 passer rating (not horrible), but if he's in a position where he's forced to throw every down from multiple scores behind? Good luck...
  • Indy 27, Tennessee 13 - Absolutely nothing about this game is interesting... but Indy avoids going "defeated" and breaks Tennessee's playoff will in the process...
  • Seattle 38, Chicago 14 - This is where we write the Bears off for good... losing by 24 to a team that doesn't play well on the road, and Caleb Hanie being replaced by Josh McCown... good night Chicago... that said, big win for Seattle who is randomly in the wild card race since Detroit has 2 very losable games left...
  • Detroit 28, Oakland 27 - Speaking of Detroit... the Lions get to 9 wins and take the driver's seat for the 6th playoff spot... Matt Stafford went for 391 yards and 4 td's with 9 catches and 214 yards for Calvin Johnson including the game winner with under a minute to play... Oakland falls to 7-7 despite a giant stat game from Carson Palmer (32 for 40 for 367)...
  • New Orleans 42, Minnesota 20 - I write about this game for one reason... Drew Brees is incredible... 412 yards and 5 TDs... and they called the dogs off late...
  • Washington 23, NY Giants 10 - Just when you think it may be safe to be comfortable with the Giants... they wet the bed at home against dreadful Washington... the NFC East is a disaster area...
  • Carolina 28, Houston 13 - Bad TJ Yates finally appeared here, and made everyone who likes to wager on the NFL salivate about betting against the Texans in round 1...
  • San Diego 34, Baltimore 14 - It honestly baffles me how anyone can trust Baltimore... have you seen them when they don't show up? It's a train wreck... and here come the Chargers... fully alive and 7-7 now with this win... I don't get it...

Elsewhere...

  • Baron Davis to the Knicks... You almost knew he'd sign with New York, Miami, or LA after clearing waivers so no surprise here... but here's the thing... the Knicks could be VERY good if he shows up in shape and ready to play... they had a joke of a backcourt before this, and Baron is an upper-echelon player when he's ready.... that said, it's BARON DAVIS... he may not show up ready to play or invested... one thing in NYK's favor is that they have great crowds who may be able to get the best out of Baron (he' s a notorious front-runner who needs crowd energy)... worth the risk for sure though
  • Jeff Green to miss the season for the Celtics... first of all, prayers for Jeff Green after a heart condition was revealed in a routine physical... second of all, this REALLY hurts the Celtics... they have absolutely no depth on the wing now (Marquis Daniels and Sasha Pavlovic... good luck), and with the age of Pierce and Allen, they desperately needed Green to take the edge off of the shortened schedule...
  • Rodney Stuckey stays in Detroit... 3 years, 25 million for Stuckey defies all logic for me... on a team that already employs Ben Gordon and his ridiculous contract AND drafted Brandon Knight in the lottery, I can't see the justification for 8+ million for another combo guard, but reportedly, they think Stuckey is their starting 2-guard... good luck...

That'll do it...
