12/8: Pujols, Paul, etc.

Greetings all... shorter today...

EDIT!!! Buster Olney now reporting that Albert Pujols is headed to Anaheim and that the deal is "done"... huge news...
  • Miami is reportedly out on Albert Pujols... what does that mean?... I have to think he's headed for St. Louis, especially if they've matched the 10th year he was offered elsewhere... maybe there's a sleeper team, but a betting man would have the Cards...
  • Speaking of the Fish... Mark Buehrle is headed to South Beach for a ludicrous 4-year, $58 million deal... I like Mark Buehrle as much as anyone, but it's MARK BUEHRLE!58 million!?!?! Oh well... Miami is definitely a better team with him on the squad to team with Johnson, Nolasco and Sanchez, but that's an overpay, even if it's one with low downside...
  • The Chris Paul rumor mill is full-scale churning... I think Golden State and the Lakers are in the driver's seat here, with the Clippers possibly jumping in if they include Eric Gordon... but nobody knows... I repeat, nobody knows...
  • While we're in the NBA... Shane Battier released (via Twitter) that he's planning on going to Miami... I'm an unabashed Shane Battier homer, but I love this move for Miami... he's a lock-down defender AND he can stretch the floor with his 3-point shooting... he's their 4th best player immediately, and gives them a legit guy to go to war with the other 3... love it...
  • The Big East is expanding... and this time it's official... Boise State, Houston, SMU, Central Florida, and San Diego State are headed East... umm... do you think they know that San Diego is in California?...
  • College Hoops round-up... Xavier officially took the lead in the Mid-Major arms race by beating Butler 73-61 on the road... Butler isn't the same team as the last 2 years, but Xavier is legit... Florida gets a nice win in OT over Arizona led by 25 and 10 from Patric Young... Alabama goes down in a heap on the road in Dayton... the Flyers win by 12 led by 20 from Chris Johnson... and finally, Georgia Tech wins the battle of the hapless over Georgia at Stegeman... 5 guys in double figures led by Jason Morris with 15 off the bench for the Jackets... Georgia shot 34% for the game... bad basketball...

What to watch for...

  • Harvard @ UConn - ESPN2 7:00 - A quietly awesome game... Harvard is legit (ranked in the coaches poll, and justifiably so), and UConn is one of the most talented teams in the country...
  • West Virginia @ Kansas State - ESPN2 9:00 - Better looking game on paper than the game it follows, but both teams are "down" talent-wise... that said, Huggins will have WV in the tourney like always, so this isn't bad...
  • Home Depot College Football Awards Show - ESPN 9:00 - no Heisman, but every other major award is given... if you care...

One final note... the NBA previews will be coming shortly... I'm trying to at least let a LITTLE of the "free agency" period pass before I start churning them out... but as usual, you'll get all 30 teams broken down...

Enjoy...
