NBA 30-Team Preview #14: Dallas Mavericks

Trying to finish the West...

ROSTER

PF - Dirk Nowitzki, Brian Cardinal
SF - Shawn Marion, Deshawn Stevenson, Steve Novak
SG - Caron Butler, Jason Terry, Dominique Jones
PG - Jason Kidd, Roddy Beaubois, JJ Barea

ANALYSIS

Brad: We've reached the point where we're splitting hairs... but this Dallas team is nice... Haywood/Chandler is a very nice center combo in this NBA... Dirk is still the 25/9 guy he's always been, and they have significant depth in the backcourt with Beaubois and Terry behind Butler and Kidd... The issues are minor... I don't love Butler as a starting SG... but I think their crunch-time lineup will include Terry and either Butler or Marion, but not both... so that'll be minor... Alot of the success hinges on Kidd keeping the level he played at last year, and avoiding injuries...

Ryan: I think that the season will really hinge on what they do with as well as how good Rodrigue Beaubois is...like...how good is he?..because if he's as good as everyone says he is/will be then that would definitely ease the pressure of success off of the now 37 year old Jason Kidd. I agree with you though this version of Caron Butler is not the one we would prefer..the ball pounding, bad shot taking one. Everyone else is pretty chalk all around but I do think that having Haywood and Chandler will give some relevance against any other team in the west because length is what will get you places and they have it.

Brad: Beaubois is certainly a key... I think it's a little overstated because of Terry still being in the fold... but anything that keeps JJ Barea off the floor is a positive (had to get the shot in there)... and the length is certainly what sets them apart from others... If either Marion or Butler can better acclimate themselves to the offense this year, they'll be fine... the Beaubois injury concerns are legit though from what I can see... tough to rely on that guy...

Ryan: Really with the JJ Barea shot?...geez. Anyways..Dallas was killed by Parker and Hill which were essentially speed guys..but I do agree that he is a tough guy to rely on but I think he's the most important to give Dallas the best chance of being well-rounded and able to keep up with anyone on any team.I think that Butler would be more able to get into the offense because he can create his own shot..Marion can just be the glue guy like he always has...where do you have them?

Brad: Had to.. I'm pretty high on them because there are pieces I trust, and looking at that roster, I think Marion and Butler were about as bad as they could've been in the 2nd half of last year, and they were still legit... San Antonio is a nightmare matchup for them... but they matchup well with LA... all about matchups in the West like always... but here we are... Prediction: 2nd in the West

Ryan:Agreed on all accounts and even with the Prediction: 2nd in the West
